On 5th of December, at the United Nations building in Geneva, an event regarding “National action plans and sharing best practices: an innovative networking approach to mitigating CBRN risks” took place, organized with the support of UNICRI and Italian Government as a side event to the Meeting of Member States on the Biological Weapons Convention (BWC).
During the meeting the National Action Plan for Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Risk Mitigation, developed by some Partner Countries of the UN-EU Joint Programme “CBRN Centres of Excellence” have been exposed. Moreover, the key role of Italy in the transfer of expertise and best practices in the field of chemical and biological risk management was presented. In this occasion FORMIT, represented by Ms. Simona Cavallini and Mr. Pietro Costanzo, has been invited to present the positive results of the project “Knowledge development and transfer of best practice on chemical and biological waste management” (Project n.6).
This project, led by FORMIT and realized in cooperation with Azienda Ospedaliera – Polo Universitario Luigi Sacco of Milan within the programme “CBRN Centres of Excellence”, involved the institutions of several South East Asian countries (Brunei, Cambodia, the Philippines, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand and Viet Nam) and achieved several significant results, including: the recognition of regional and international good practices in the sector; the realization of a Handbook for chemical and biological waste management in specialized laboratories; the realization of workshops and training sessions in the participating countries; the development of a e-learning platform available for the project beneficiaries.
