Feasibility Study on Implementation of Capabilities for Exchange of Classified Information in the MARSUR Network

Contracting Party: European Defence Agency (EDA)
Period: 2021

Description:

The project “Feasibility Study on Implementation of Capabilities for Exchange of Classified Information in the MARSUR Network” aims at supporting the European Defence Agency (EDA) in informing the EDA participating Members (pMS) about the technical, operational and funding implications of the introduction of capabilities for exchange of classified information in the MARSUR Network. The purpose of the study is to provide EDA with a critical analysis of any regulatory, technical, organisational and operational aspect ascribed to the solutions at stake, as well as with detailed information of all project phases, the costs and risks that may arise from implementing a “classified layer” in the MARSUR Network.

Against this backdrop, the Feasibility Study focuses on the following:

  1. Landscaping of the existing technologies for exchange of classified information at different levels (RESTRICTED, CONFIDENTIAL, SECRET)
  2. Review of existing regulations for exchange of classified information at national and EU level
  3. Analysis of the impact of implementation of the “classified layer” on the operational value of MARSUR
  4. Recommendations about which classification level to implement and how to do so.

The project is implemented by Fondazione FORMIT and IPS S.p.A., being FORMIT the coordinator and IPS responsible for carrying out the mapping of significant technologies allowing the exchange of classified information at different levels to be possibly used to implement the “classified layer”
